Did you know that if you compress air, you can have tons of fun! In this video, the secret of compressed air will be revealed. When we compress air in a container, it wants only one thing — to stop being compressed. This very phenomenon teaches us valuable science about pressure differentials and conservation of energy. When air is compressed in a container, the pressure is transferred to all sides of the container. Therefore, it is important that our container is strong enough. Moreover, when air in one part of the container is compressed, it will apply pressure to other parts of the container to conserve energy.  Whenever the container is opened, the gas will escape with force. Applications of these principles can be found in rocket launcher toy and beach trampoline.

This video satisfies the 5-PS1-1 requirement of fifth-grade science proficiency.

Students who demonstrate understanding can:  5-PS1-1. Develop a model to describe that matter is made of particles too small to be seen.
