Matter moves through an ecosystem in the form of cycles. These cycles follow conservation of matter, according to which matter can neither be created, nor destroyed, but can be changed from one form to another. In this lesson, students will be briefly informed about the processes that allow cycling of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and water through the atmosphere and back to Earth.

This video satisfies the 5-LS2-1 requirement of fifth-grade science proficiency.

Students who demonstrate understanding can: 5-LS2-1 Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment.
