All organisms require energy to survive. In this video, Kirstan will briefly introduce the students to food chain. A food chain represents the flow of energy among living organisms in an ecosystem and is usually made up of three components — the producers, consumers, and decomposers. Be it land or ocean habitat, food chains begin with producers, which are organisms that have ability to make their own food. In every habitat, food chain represents a full cycle of life and energy. In a nutshell, in the real world, all living things depend on each other to survive.

This video satisfies the 5-LS2-1 requirement of fifth-grade science proficiency.

Students who demonstrate understanding can: 5-LS2-1 Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment
