In this video, Instructional Coach Joe teaches the Traits of Plants lesson. Plants inherit traits from their parents that give them their characteristics and appearance. These traits could include flower color, shape, leaf shape, and plant height. A baby plant will grow up to look similar to its parents. They will have similar flower colors, flower positions, seed colors, seed shapes, and leaf patterns. When the plant is young, it may look smaller and immature but will grow to have the same features.

The video takes place in a classroom setting where students communicate with the instructor for participatory reasons. The video will keep students engaged and interested in the subject matter.

This video satisfies the 3-LS3-1 requirement for third-grade science proficiency.

Students who demonstrate understanding can:

3-LS3-1 Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence that plants and animals have traits inherited from parents and that variation of these traits exists in a group of similar organisms.
