How to Name Animal Groups

Have you ever wondered what to call a group of animals? Sure you may know a group of deer is called a herd, or a group of birds is called a flock, but how are we classifying these animals? Let’s find out!

A herd is a large group of animals that live, feed, and travel together. We also use the term’ herd ‘ for animals that are herded or gathered together, especially livestock. We use the term ‘pack’ for a group of animals that live and hunt together, especially animals in the canine family. We use “flock’ for birds, sheep, and goats. It should also be noted many groups of animals could be referred to by more than one name.
