Do you ever wonder what light is and where it comes from? How do we see color? In this video, students will develop an understanding of electromagnetic radiation. Light is a form of energy that travels in the form of waves and is generated when matter is heated or gains energy. A human eye perceives color when light waves reflected from an object reach it. However, the human eye only sees electromagnetic radiation that falls in a particular wavelength range, which is known as visible light. That said, light with wavelengths longer or shorter than this range is invisible to the human eye. Together, visible light and invisible light form the electromagnetic spectrum.
The video satisfies the 4-PS4-2 requirement of fourth-grade science proficiency.
Students who demonstrate understanding can: 4-PS4-2. Develop a model to describe that light reflecting from objects and entering the eye allows objects to be seen.
