Our dynamic planet Earth works on a set of interconnected systems. In this video, students will learn how various systems interact for our planet to function. The systems of Earth can be classified into four categories: atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere. Earth’s processes are the result of flow of mass and energy within and between Earth’s systems. This flow of mass and energy is not limited to this planet, but also extends to our solar system. For instance, Earth gains mass from space from the impact of meteorites, whereas it loses mass when gases escape into space. Interaction between Earth systems has shaped its history and will determine its future.
This video satisfies the 4-ESS2-1 requirement of fourth-grade science proficiency.
Students who demonstrate understanding can: 4-ESS2-1. Make observations and/or measurements to provide evidence of the effects of weathering or the rate of erosion by water, ice, wind, or vegetation.
