As our population grows, so does our effects on the environment. In this lesson, let’s find out some of the ways scientists are trying to cater to environmental issues. One of most challenging environmental issue we face today is the increase in concentration of green house gases (GHGs), such as carbon dioxide and methane, in the atmosphere. This increase can dramatically affect our climate. As dairy and cattle farming is a major contributor of GHGs, scientists have developed alternatives for cow milk and meat using plant sources. Similarly, scientists have developed a method to grow bio-cement, recycle GHGs into jet fuel, and recycle plastic waste using enzymes. Through such discoveries, we can alter our damaging behavior to the environment to ensure a better life for our and future generations.
